Chlamydia screening – Check Ur Self

About treating Chlamydia...

A simple test can check whether you have chlamydia, the infection can be easily treated.

If I do the test and find I have chlamydia, can it be treated?

The good news is: Yes! Chlamydia is easily treated with antibiotics.

About the treatment…

  • Chlamydia is treated with one dose of antibiotics (4 tablets taken together at the same time)
  • Then no sex at all for 7 days after taking the tablets (even with a condom)
  • And make sure your partner(s) is treated and no sex for 7 days (even with a condom)after they have taken their tablets

If all these 3 things are done [tablets taken, no sex until 7 days after partner(s) treated] then your chlamydia infection will be successfully treated.

About your partner…

  • Your partner (and anybody else that you have had sex with) will need to be treated as well.
  • You must not have sex for 7 days after your treatment (plus 7 seven days after your partner has been treated if he/she is not treated on the same day) – even with a condom.

Do I have to tell my partner that I have the infection?

  • Yes – it is important that you and your partner are both treated.

What if I don’t tell my partner – what will happen?

  • If you don’t tell your partner (even ex-partners), you will become re-infected if you have sex with an untreated person. Your ex still needs to know so that he/she can go for treatment and avoid passing the infection onto other people and avoid them having serious health problems in the future.

I really don’t want to tell my partner – I don’t know what will happen…

  • Discuss this concern with your nurse or doctor, who will advise and support you. This can sometimes be a sensitive situation to deal with.
